These are other AREA team tryouts; however, these teams may not be participating in the Diamond Council Leagues in Columbia.Spring 2009 Competitive Baseball Leagues

Diamond Council offers competitive baseball leagues. League fees for 2008 are $1300, teams will be responsible to provide game balls. These teams play in a separate league from the neighborhood formed teams (Recreational). These are teams with more skilled players and register differently from the recreational players. Coaches recruit their own players enter this league as a whole team. Diamond Council may host tryouts to help coaches recruit players if needed. This league will be sanctioned by the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA), and accepts AA teams. USSSA teams are formed by age as of April 30th of the current year. This league will play two games per week, no double headers unless requested. Below are listed the leagues and dates of play.

Coaches in these leagues must communicate to their players that these are competitive teams and players are not guaranteed equal playing time as in Recreation Leagues. Coaches select players and players select coaches with the understanding that the coaches are not obligated to give equal playing time to all players.

Bantams Competitive - 10 & Under Boys
Teams will be scheduled for a total of 16 games and playing on Monday thru Friday, but primarily on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting the week of April 16th. Rainouts will NOT be made up, however there will be a end of season tourney in June. Games will be played at Antimi or Albert Oakland Fields. Games will be six innings in length and will be played with a 1 hour and 15 minute time limit. Game times will be 6:00 and 7:30 PM. USSSA Baseball Rules are used for these divisions, except teams will be allowed to bat the roster and have free substitution. Two umpires will be scheduled for all games in this division.Midget Competitive - 12 & Under Boys
Teams will be scheduled for a total of 16 games and playing on Monday thru Friday starting the week of April 16th. Rainouts will NOT be made up, however there will be a end of season tourney in June. Two umpires will be scheduled for all games in this division.Juniors Competitive - 14 & Under Boys
Teams will be scheduled for a total of 16 games and playing on Monday thru Friday, but primarily on Mondays and Wednesdays starting in May. Rainouts will NOT be made up, however there will be a end of season tourney the in June. Games will be played at AtkinsFields or American Legion fields. Games will be seven innings in length and will be played with a 1 hour and 45 minute time limit. Game times will be 6:00 and 8:00 PM. USSSA Baseball Rules are used for these divisions, except teams will be allowed to bat the roster and have free substitution. Two umpires will be scheduled for all games in this division.Note on Rainouts: Fields and umpires will be available on weekends and some week days for teams that want to reschedule any rained out game. It will be the responsibility of the coaches to coordinate the date and time. It is our intent that each team get to play a minimum 16 games with the league games and end of year tourney. Coaches and parents do not want the season to drag on, so we will have a set start and finish date.
Spring 2009 Competitive Softball Leagues
These leagues will follow American Softball Associate (ASA) rules with some Diamond Council league specific changes (see Coaches Handbook for more rule information).
